3-Tier Garment Rack, Black

A wardrobe runs out before the clothes do. What is left goes on the back of a door, over the chair in the corner, or into a bag on the floor of the spare room. Plenty of rooms have no wardrobe to start with.

This is a wardrobe with the doors and the sides left off. A rail runs the full 90cm width, directly under the top shelf, and you hang from it the way you would hang in a built-in. The top tier is open wire, for hats, bags and the things that get folded. Two shelves below take shoes, boxes and stacks. Three tiers and a rail, 180cm tall and 45cm deep.

The frame is black metal, and the two lower shelves are wood-look panels in a walnut tone, the same pairing as our freestanding shelving unit. Panels rather than raw timber, so a damp cloth is the whole of the cleaning.

The base sits on castors that lock. Unlock them and it rolls out from the wall so you can get behind it, or moves down the hall when the spare bedroom turns into something else. Lock them and it stays where it was put.

Roll it in, hang the rail, and the chair goes back to being a chair.

• A rail across the full width. 90cm of hanging under the top shelf, open at both ends, with nothing boxing it in at the sides.
• Three tiers. An open wire shelf on top, two wood-look shelves at the base, for everything that folds rather than hangs.
• Rolls, then locks. Castors underneath. Unlock to move it, lock it once it is standing where you want it.
• Black metal, walnut-tone shelves. The same pairing as the freestanding range, so an open wardrobe does not end up reading as a shop fitting.
• 180 x 90 x 45cm. Wardrobe height on a 90cm run. Measure the wall and the ceiling before you order.
